It's Mary Elizabeth's birthday; President Roosevelt's son has another wreck
It was Mary Elizabeth’s third birthday today, and wouldn’t you know it, she had a cold. She was born just days before Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s election in 1932. My paternal grandmother, who had my father in 1933, used to say if you were born during the Great Depression you weren’t planned, but you were loved!
On this Saturday, Margaret cut her finger and had to see the doctor. Professor Hamilton attended the Albright College football game — he had become quite the fan! — and said the game with Moravian College was a good one. Albright maintained its winning streak but was scored on for the first time. The game ended 12-6. That evening they listened to symphony music on the radio. If Mary Elizabeth’s birthday was celebrated in any way, he doesn’t mention it.
President Roosevelt was enjoying a few days in Hyde Park, New York, but his youngest son John was making headlines again, and not in a good way. Paid subscribers can read on about his latest scrape.
