Professor Hamilton's Diary: Nov. 22, 1935
He takes three students to a conference; FDR gives road-side press conference
Professor Hamilton was probably glad to get out of Reading for a few days amid all the hub-bub over his snub of Sally Rand. Three students joined him on a road trip to Syracuse, New York, where they attended the Middle Atlantic Conference of International Relations Clubs at Syracuse University. There they heard some speeches and took part in a round table discussion on the topic of “Sanctions,” undoubtedly regarding the League of Nations’ economic sanctions on Italy to try and stop its ongoing aggression against Ethiopia.
The students must have had accommodations at the university. Professor Hamilton stayed with his sister, Rose, who fixed him some hot cocoa before he retired for the night.
