Professor Hamilton's Diary: Nov. 7, 1935
He hears a report on recreation in Germany; Socialists sweep local elections
Professor Hamilton attended a meeting of the International Relations Club at Albright this evening where the speaker was Thomas W. Lantz, head of the city’s recreation department, who had recently visited Germany. An article in the Nov. 9 Reading Times said Lantz was impressed by the “agricultural economy and the cleanliness of the German people.” It continued, “Motion pictures showed the Albrightians many bicycles, beautiful buildings and cities, the Youth Hostel Movement and preparations for the 1936 Olympic Games.” These games, of course, became infamous as the Nazi Olympics.
The club was presenting a radio broadcast the following week on the topic “Can the United States Keep Out of the Next War.” Professor Hamilton rehearsed his part.
The big news locally was the election that had been held on Tuesday, where Socialist Party candidates had won a resounding victory. Paid subscribers can read on.
