In a sparse entry, Professor Hamilton wrote simply, “Classes. Another fine warm day,” and “Margaret went out to her ensemble class.”

In the news that day, there was plenty going on, however. The president and first lady almost lost two of their sons in a car crash with a train, the New Jersey Supreme Court made a decision about the death sentence of the Lindbergh baby killer, and Professor Hamilton’s observation of “another fine warm day” followed a record-setting cool one.
