The day started out badly for the Hamiltons and got worse. “Margaret broke her glasses this morning & in the afternoon she went to the occulist (Dr. Penta). I stayed with Mary Elizabeth. When Margaret came home baby rushed to meet her, and fell on her arm.” The Hamiltons were afraid she had broken it, but their physician, Dr. High, assured them it was only a sprain.

The undeclared war between Italy and Ethiopia raged on, but fans of the movies were diverted by the news that MGM stars Joan Crawford and Franchot Tone had secretly married in New Jersey. Paid subscribers can read on.
