Professor Hamilton heard a German actor named Paul Dietz give dramatic readings of German authors, “mostly in German” at the Albright Chapel this morning. According to a report in the Reading Times, he gave a similar program to the Kiwanis Club later in the day, reading from the works of authors including Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, author of “Faust,” and Goethe’s friend Frederic Schiller.

Meanwhile, President Roosevelt concluded his three-week fishing cruise in Charleston, S.C., speaking at The Citadel military college to a crowd of about 20,000. Paid subscribers can read on about his speech, which kowtowed to Southern politicians he needed to support his New Deal legislation.
