With his sister Rose and her friend Edna still visiting, the Hamiltons began their Sunday early. It was nippy enough that Professor Hamilton built a fire in the fireplace. He drove Gwennie to Sunday school and while she was there, he took a ride around town with his visitors and baby Mary Elizabeth in the car. After taking the children home, he, Rose, and Edna went to church.

Presumably Margaret was at home cooking, because he writes they had a “nice chicken dinner.” That aftrnon Margaret invited her piano teacher Helen Richards to come over, and she and Margaret played some duets, Margaret on her violin. She also sang. What a talented wife Professor Hamilton has, and how supportive he is of her music!

The grim face of war was revealed in all its ugliness in Ethiopia, which had been invaded by the Italian army. The carton above, ironically titled “The Hour of ‘Glory’ Arrives,” ran on the front page of Monday’s Reading Times. For more about this almost-forgotten war, paid subscribers can read on.
