Professor Hamilton's Diary: Sept. 17, 1935
He spends "a busy day" in New York City and passes judgement on a football player
After breakfasting with his in-laws in Bronxville, Professor Hamilton drove them to New York City. He parked his car on the Columbia University campus, and they visited the new library building and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
From there they took the subway into the city, where Professor Hamilton and his father-in-law had lunch and did some shopping at Macy’s. (Not quite sure what happened to his mother-in-law.) He’s become quite a clothes horse lately, and today he picked up a suit, a hat and shirts. His in-laws must have taken the subway home, for he left at 3:15 for Reading, where he had two faculty meetings. The subject of one of them may sound familiar: a football player who didn’t quite make the grade.

The vintage postcard of the cathedral is being offered on eBay. The “new” Nicholas Murray Butler Library, finished in 1934 at a cost of $4 million, was featured in this vintage postcard, which is also being offered on eBay.
