Professor Hamilton's Diary: Sept. 2, 1935
He reviews 'Anthony Adverse'; U.S. observes Labor Day in troubled times
It was a cool, rainy day in Reading, so cool that “we had a fire in the fireplace,” Professor Hamilton wrote. Too bad for the kids, because this was the last day of their summer break. School began on Sept. 3.
He finally finished reading the novel Anthony Adverse by Hervey Allen and made these comments:
“It is a wonderful adventure story, and excellent historical novel. I especially liked the incidents of the slave trade and the earlier part of the life in Italy.”
