The professor took daughter Gwennie to Sunday school this morning, the first day of fall. He was home all day, reading tne newspaper in the afternoon and studying for his classes in the evening.

The Reading Times did not publish a Sunday edition, so it’s a fair bet Professor Hamilton was reading The New York Times, a fat package of 208 pages. Paid subscribers can read on for the news of the day, as the world tensed for war between Italy and Ethiopia.

Baptists, Bootleggers, and Everything in Between is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

The vintage postcard here shows a vivid autumn scene but does not give the location. It’s being offered by a dealer on eBay.
