“After working around my room & caring for baby (Margaret doing washing) I went downtown on errands,” Professor Hamilton wrote. Among them was taking some books to a bookbinder. Imagine that! The rainy weather finally having cleared for a few hours, he took a long walk in the afternoon. Maybe he saw something like the pretty scene shown in this vintage postcard offered on eBay.

A hurricane howled across the Florida Keys earlier in the week, stranding a luxury cruise ship on a coral reef and killing hundreds of World War I vets laboring at three Federal Emergency Relief Adminisration camps.
