American voters ended Prohibitionin this day in 1933 by ratifying the 21st Amendment. Beginning in 1920, it had been illegal to manufacture, transport, export, import or sell alcoholic beverages. By the time FDR was elected president in 1932, voters were ready for a legal drink again.
