“Did the usual things,” Thelma wrote. “Ate breakfast, read the paper, worked around.” They had a mid-day dinner and after Lowell left for work she and her friend Vargie “visited and listened to the radio.” I am so glad Thelma has found a friend to keep her company!

It used to be the custom to observe Straw Hat Day each spring, when it was time to trade in your felt fedora for something lighter and cooler. Read about how this was modified during war time, but only if you are a paid subscriber.
