Although it was Easter Sunday, Thelma and Lowell did not go to church. Instead, they slept until noon, read the Sunday funnies and had dinner. Afterward, they headed to the amusement park on Lake Ponchartrain, which had just opened for the season. “We walked around and watched the different rides and concessions,” Thelma wrote. “Saw the contests etc. and the lady jump into the tank of water.” Thelma noted that it was “very warm” and the buses were “really crowded.” They later went downtown, window-shopped and “played hockey.” What?
