Thelma writes today for the first time of a girlfriend named Vargie. She wrote, “Vargie and I were back and forth talking as usual as Lowell and Joe are on the same shift this week.” This makes me think Vargie and Joe may have another apartment in the same house. Vargie’s name will come up frequently in the months to come.

New Orleans native Dorothy Lamour, who was becoming one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood due to the “Road to” movies made with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, tied the knot today.
