Thelma continued to track down the missing package today and had a disappointing day shopping at the market. She had “such a time” baking a cake. By the time Lowell came home, “we just listened to the radio and played some cards in the evening.”

If they were looking for thrills, they could have read war correspondent Eric Sevareid’s account of being rescued in a Burma jungle by a tribe of headhunters. Sevareid was one of five journalists honored with a commemorative stamp in 2008, above.
