Thelma did some shopping downtown today, buying material to sew a dress ($1.25) and a baby gift, which cost $2.09, for “Jack and Helen’s baby.” I am not sure who this couple is. It’s a different baby from the one she thought was “so cute.” But the Baby Boom is on its way, so there’s no telling.

“Sure was tired when I got home,” Thelma wrote.

Eleanor Roosevelt, vacationing in Hyde Park, New York while her husband was fishing in Canada, had some profound thoughts about the future that she shared in her inimitable, folksy way.
