Thelma and her BFF Vangy went on a quest today for a used sewing machine. “We were everywhere but had no luck,” she lamented.
Machines like the 1941 Singer Featherweight pictured here are durable little creatures that can, with care and attention, last for decades. In fact, I have one quite similar to the one pictured, which is being offered on eBay, that I sew with today. There was a tremendous revival in popularity of the Featherweight when the craze for quilting took off in the 1980s because the machines are highly portable and can be taken to classes and workshops in their sturdy wooden cases. The very nice case here is even lined with custom Singer cloth.
