“I told Mrs. Dietrich about our going to have a baby and she took it better than I expected,” Thelma wrote in a very nonchalant way. So that explains the doctor visits! Thelma and Lowell were getting the jump on the Baby Boom, which would not officially begin until 1946 and millions of service men came home.

Later this month, as the diary winds down, I will tell you about what happened to Thelma and Lowell after 1943. Meanwhile, here is a vintage baby announcement, found on eBay.
