With Lowell still working the 3 to 11 p.m. shift, the couple spent the early hours of the day at the meat market and grocery store “as they’re so crowded later.” They went home and cleaned the apartment together (Thelma always refers to it as “the house”). After Lowell left for work, Thelma baked cookies, listened to the radio and read.
