It was a Sunday. Thelma and Lowell gave each other a pound of chocolates in a heart-shaped box for Valentine’s Day. Lowell had the day off, so they slept late, read the Sunday newspaper, ate dinner, and then walked over to Audubon Park. It was cold, though, so they didn’t stay long. They then walked to a movie theatre but found they had already seen the picture that was playing, so they returned home and listened to the radio.

This Whitman’s Sampler magazine ad, offered by an eBay dealer, shows a young service man and his sweetheart sharing a tender moment. I didn’t at first notice the arm of a sneaky youngster filching one of their candies! With chocolate a highly rationed item, he probably couldn’t resist.
