Thelma and Lowell's Diary: Feb. 16, 1943
They get a package from home; Veronica Lake shows the other side of her face
Thema and Lowell received a late Valentine’s Day package from her parents in Ohio today. It contained a sweater for Lowell — I wonder if it was hand-knit? — a camera, and a one-pound box of Gilbert Chocolates. This chocolate company has operated in Michigan since 1900. The drawing of the original chocolate shop is from the company’s website.
Lowell worked the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift today. Thelma wrote letters and listened to the radio in the evening. I wonder how many chocolates she ate?
In other news, the actress Veronica Lake, famous for obscuring part of her face with a fall of blonde hair, agreed to pose for a series of photographs with her hair pulled back at the request of the War Production Board. Why would she do such a thing? You’ll need to be a paid subscriber to find out. Upgrade below, and thanks for reading.
