She buys material to make a dress, dealing with war-time restrictions
Thelma went shopping with some of Lowell’s pay today, buying material for a dress, as well as matching zipper and thread. She also paid the gas bill. Making your own clothes was common during the 1930s and 1940s, and Thelma likely learned from her mother or grandmother, while also sharpening her skills by taking home economics classes in high school.
