Thelma and Lowell's Diary: Feb. 7, 1943
They see 'Tales of Manhattan'; so did Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman
Thelma slept late today while Lowell worked the day shift at the submarine range. After he came home, they ate dinner, then took in the movie Tales of Manhattan at the National Theatre. Afterward, they picked up ice cream sundaes — costing 31 cents — which they ate at home. The movie, an anthology of five stories linked by a cursed tail coat, had an all-star cast that included Ginger Rogers, Charles Laughton, Edward G. Robinson, Charles Boyer, Paul Robeson, Ethel Waters, W.C. Fields, and Rita Hayworth.
Married stars Jane Wyman and Ronald Reagan were photographed attending the Hollywood premiere of Tales of Manhattan in 1942. The photo is from the UCLA Libraries collection, accessed through Wikimedia Commons.
