Thelma and Lowell's Diary: Jan. 21, 1943

Lowell got up early to cash his paycheck and Thelma spent the afternoon shopping with some of the cash. Her purchases included:

  • Flower (I think this was actually flour, but maybe it was a flower)

  • Underwear

  • Stockings — $1.19 a pair. That was $20!

  • Thread

  • A vegetable bag and glass holders

  • Washcloth

  • Hankie

Her total bill was $3.61, or about $61 in current funds.

While Lowell worked, she had a quiet evening washing out clothes in the sink and listening to the radio.
