Thelma and Lowell's Diary: July 31, 1943
They spend a wide-ranging Saturday in New Orleans; Lady Astor gets hauled into court
Lowell was again on the 7-3 shift. Thelma caught a ride with Vangy to the meat market today, using her ration points to buy a beef roast and pork chops, then they went to the river “and watched the ferries cross” and the train coming in on the bridge across Lake Pontchartrain.
When Lowell came in from work, he went downtown for a haircut, spending 60 cents, and “brought a watermelong along home.” The vintage linen postcard here is being offered on eBay. Can’t you just imagine them sharing some ice-cold melon on the porch with their friends Vangy and Joe?
