Thelma and Lowell's Diary: June 13, 1943
He prepares for his return trip by train; despite heat wave, women urged to buy fur
Thelma and Lowell got up early this Sunday morning and went to the Ark Church. (There are a number of churches with this name in present-day Ohio that seem to be of the nondemonimational type but I doubt they are the one Lowell writes about.) They had chicken for dinner, with raspberry pie for dessert. The afternoon was taken up with visiting and going again to Carey, where he left his bags at the train station and got a ticket to return to New Orleans on Tuesday morning. The picture postcard showing a train at the Carey depot dates from 1920 and is being offered by a dealer on eBay.
