Lowell met the train in Carey at 3 a.m., with Thelma, his sister Donnabelle and his mother seeing him off. I bet their were some tears, as it was likely the first time in their marriage that he and Thelma had been apart and his female relatives didn’t know when they would see him again. He took the “same old route” home on what he described as a crowded train. He spent a dime on a Coke.
