In an uncharacteristic post, Lowell wrote at length about his day. Since he is on the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift, he slept until 1 p.m., “got up and got dinner, steak and fried potatoes.” I think he is getting take-out as Thelma seems to do all the cooking when she is home. After seeing a movie, he stopped at a place called Cooks and got a “bag,” which I read to be a bag lunch. He went home at 6, ate, read, and listened to the radio, then left to catch a streetcar to work at 10:20. His expenses for the day totaled 89 cents: rides, eats and the show, which cost a quarter.

What movie did he see? To find out about aviatrix Amy Johnson, whose story is told in Wings and the Woman, you’ll need to be a paid subscriber. It only costs 16 cents a day to follow the full home front experience of Thelma and Lowell. Click below to upgrade from free. The photo of Johnson was accessed through Wikimedia Commons.
