Thelma and Lowell went into Dunkirk today and did some visiting. He wrote, “…saw June and baby, Aunt Addie at hospital, Aunt Ethel Thomas, & Uncle Clayton and Aunt Ethel.” Imagine having TWO aunts named Ethel! It was a popular name then. They split up in the evening. “Thelma went to her place for supper & I went over there after folks went to bed,” he concluded. I can imagine how hungry all those relatives were to see the young marrieds and hear of their adventures in New Orleans — or simply to fill them in on all the gossip from the village of Dunkirk.

A Fortune magazine poll pointed to a fourth-term win for Franklin Delano Roosevelt. To read about it, you’ll need to be a paid subscriber. It’s simple (and cheap!) to upgrade. Click below to try out a month’s subscription for just $5 and enjoy the full benefits of Thelma and Lowell’s Diary.
