Lowell was back at work on the farm today. “I got up early and came home for breakfast and then disked in the north field while Wilbur planted our first corn,” he wrote. I assume Wilbur is a brother, cousin, or other relative.

Lowell dutifully wrote down the figures for his paycheck gross and deductions, including $18.75 for a war bond. A full-page ad in the Sandusky, Ohio Register newspaper the day before gave a detailed report on the second national bond drive conducted April 12 through May 1.
