Thelma and Lowell's Diary: March 10, 1943
They buy ferry tickets; President Roosevelt meets with Joe Kennedy
Thelma and Lowell entered only expenses today, 42 cents for rides, 86 cents for eats and 20 cents for ferry tickets. I take this to mean they went sight-seeing with her parents. Ferries still ply the Mississippi River in New Orleans. This description is from the website neworleans.com:
“Some of the best views of the city are from the Canal Street/Algiers Ferry in the middle of the Mississippi River. Since 1827, the ferry has traveled across the Mississippi River to Algiers Point, a historic neighborhood with loads of 19th century village charm. Ride the ferry from the French Quarter and stroll the Jazz Walk of Fame in Algiers.”
The vintage postcard of a ferry boat that plied the waters to Algiers Point is being offered on eBay.
President Roosevelt had a meeting at the White House today with his former ambassador to Great Britain, Joseph P. Kennedy, followed by lunch with Kennedy’s successor, John G. Winant.
