It was a chilly day in New Orleans, Thelma wrote, with a high of 52 degrees predicted in the newspaper. Lowell had to work at 7 p.m. but before then they all walked over to the Audubon Park zoo to watch the seals being fed and laugh at the antics of the monkeys. That night, she and her parents went to see the war aviation picture Thunderbirds, starring the gorgeous actress Gene Tierney, above. The film was noteworthy because of its thrilling aerial scenes shot in Technicolor.
