Thelma and Lowell's Diary: May 17, 1943
Thelma and Lowell wash 'everything'; National Cotton Week begins -- cocktail included
It was a big-time laundry day for Thelma and Lowell. They washed everything, she wrote, underlining the “everything.” Lowell went downtown and got his leave approved, “So he felt peppy,” and that night they folded the laundry that didn’t need ironing and put it away, while she dampened the things that needed ironing for the next morning. They listened to the Lux Radio Theatre that night, a one-hour version of the movie The Talk of the Town performed by the original stars, Ronald Colman, Cary Grant, and Jean Arthur.
It was National Cotton Week. To learn about Springs Mills and the titilating Spring Maid advertising campaign created by its CEO Elliott White Springs, an ace World War I pilot and, according to his biographer, “one of the most accomplished bartenders in uniform,” you’ll need to be a paid subscriber.
