Thelma and Lowell's Diary: May 2, 1943
They have a lazy Sunday and listen to FDR's speech on the miners' strike
Booties and Readers: Thanks for your patience! My manuscript for Methodists and Moonshiners: Another Prohibition Expedition Through the South…with Cocktail Recipes, went off to the publisher so I can again devote some time to Thelma and Lowell and their adventures in war-time New Orleans. I’ll be giving you a few previews of the book, including some of its recipes, as I eagerly await publication in the fall. I will let you know when it can be pre-ordered! Now, back to our story.
It was a typical lazy Sunday for Thelma and Lowell. He had the day off, so they slept late (no church again), ate dinner and read the funny papers. Thelma noted that it was “real warm.” They walked over to Audubon Park to watch the rides and the animals at the zoo, and then they came home and “took some pictures in the yard.” How I would love to see them! Lowell watered his vegetable garden. That night they listened on the radio as President Roosevelt spoke about the coal miners’ strike.
