He gets paid; Roosevelt arrives in Oran; illegal alien questioned in butcher case
Lowell had gotten a $95.10 paycheck, which he used to pay rent of $16.25 and make some incidental purchases, including a newspaper.
He wouldn’t have seen any news about President Roosevelt’s arrival in Oran, which was still being kept under wraps, but the saga of the murdered butcher Gene Mano (alias Constantino Massotto) continued with the questioning of an illegal alien from Italy who was one of two men who had been with the butcher the day he was last seen. The photo of the murdered man ran on page 2 of the Times-Picayune.
