Lowell wrote in the diary today that he had worked at the flashing station (still don’t have a clue what that is) and “Did two LCT’s.” LCT stands for Landing Craft Tank, an amphibious assault craft that was used in the D-Day and other World War II beach landings and through the Korean and Vietnam wars. The LCT above was built in Wisconsin in 1943 and the photo of a practice landing is from the collection of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Weapons of a different kind were wreaking havoc on Berlin with a massive air assault launched tonight by the Royal Air Force. The photo of the Lancaster bombers deployed by the RAF is from the website Berlin Experiences.
