Lowell wrote that Thelma mailed a birthday present to her mother. I bet it was the table cloth they bought last week for $2.06.

He was lucky to have his wife with him as he worked in the defense industry; many men in the service came to New Orleans craving female company and entertainment. That’s where the United Service Organizations, or USO, found its calling.
