Lowell gets his third typhoid shot; 'Mrs. Hemingway' is a guest at the White House
Lowell got his third typhoid vaccination today, and probably suffered a sore arm again, though he doesn’t mention it. His take-home pay came to $82.62, of which $16.25 went to monthly rent and 50 cents for hospitalization insurance. Even at the modern financial translation of $8.90, that insurance was a bargain!
The crowded calendar at the White House today included a mention of a houseguest: Mrs. Ernest Hemingway. She was better known as Martha Gellhorn and she was one of the world’s top war correspondents. Paid subscribers can read on about this fascinating woman.
