Thelma and Lowell's Diary: Oct. 23, 1943
They listen to the ball games on the radio; FDR "indisposed"
Lowell writes on this Saturday that Thelma spent the day cleaning and he was working at what he abbreviates as D.P. Sta. (for station) “but got home around 2:30 as there was nothng scheduled.” I am unable to figure out about what Lowell was doing and where, but in entries this week he writes more about this mysterious D.P. Sta. and the difficulty of reaching “coils.” Any ideas, readers? That evening they listened to ball games on the radio. With the World Series over with, this would have been college football games.
At the White House, the president was “indisposed” and spent the day in bed. What was wrong with FDR? Plenty, according to medical historian Steven Lomazow. Read on to learn about Dr. Lomazow’s writings on FDR’s health problems, which began long before he contracted polio in 1921.
