“Thelma met me downtown,” Lowell wrote, and left no question of what they were doing. They were shopping.
Their purchases included shoes and socks for $6.49, a tablespread — I assume he means table cloth, which was a gift — for $2.06, a $3 deposit on a pair of glasses, and 68 cents on lipstick.
