Lowell’s arm was sore and he felt sick from his shots, so he stayed in bed most of the day today. He continued to follow the World Series (Yankees 6, Cardinals, 2) on the radio. He and Thelma had oysters for supper.

Captain Hodding Carter, Jr., who would become one of the best-known progressive newspaper publishers in the country in the post-war years, gave an interview about what he had learned from listening to soldiers during his time as an editor of the service newspaper Stars and Stripes.
