She blows a fuse and out go the lights; Mrs. Roosevelt storms Australia
The couple slept late, as she had gotten up after he came home after midnight the night before and fixed a very late meal for them both. Today Lowell read while she cooked dinner and after he left for work she caught a ride with Vangy and Joe to the grocery store. She was doing some more ironing that evening and blew a fuse. “Mrs. D. [the landlady] was very nice about it. Went to bed early then as no lights.”
Meanwhile, Eleanor Roosevelt was taking Australia by storm, sharing a few of her experiences in her syndicated “My Day” column. The picture of the First Lady cuddling a winsome koala bear is from the National Archives, accessed via Wikimedia Commons.
