Thelma was up early this Saturday to go to the market, returning with a chicken. Lowell helped her clean up the house before going to work at 3. She baked a cherry pie in the afternoon and spent her evening listening to The Grand Ol’ Opry on the radio and reading, but she developed a sick headache.

“I was so sick when Lowell came home,” she wrote. “He put hot cloths on my head.”
